Flax Seeds

Glossy brown or golden seeds, also known as linseed. Milled flax is a familiar ingredient in bread, porridge and some baking recipes.

Character

Earthy flavour, finely milled.

Forms

Brown or golden; whole or milled

Choose with purpose

Match the cut and preparation to your intended use.

At home in the kitchen

Choose food-grade prepared flax and follow the pack directions. Milled flax disperses more easily into a recipe than whole seeds. Do not treat flax oil, extracts and the whole food as interchangeable.

What to look for

Avoid raw or unripe flaxseed. If you take medicines, are pregnant or plan to use concentrated flax products, ask a healthcare professional. Keep milled products sealed and follow their storage instructions.
